The 18 Game NFL Season

The NFL season is upon us once again! As we all sit eagerly waiting until opening day we must first succomb to the inevitable preseason games. Don't get me wrong, I like to see what the young talent on my favorite teams can do but seriously, I want to see the big time playmakers on the field. I love football of all kinds, from the peewee leagues, to high school, and college, but when it comes to the National Football League I want to see the stars play. The ones who put on a show and give me my money's worth. Luckily, it seems the NFL is thinking about getting rid of two of the preseason games and replacing them with two extra regular season games bringing the season to an 18 game schedule. There are legit arguements on both sides of this ordeal. The players say it will take a toll on their bodies (especially running backs) because its already hard enough to make it through a season healthy now. Coaches want training camps to be earlier to help them access there new young talents since they will be losing those two extra weeks in preseason to do that and an extended roster to help replace players who do get injured. Owners and the NFL big wigs want the extra two games for obvious reasons: MONEY! But that's ok and understandable, afterall they are running a business. But the most important ones is the fans. We want more FOOTBALL!!!! We sit all week long waiting on Sunday and when it gets here there's nothing like it. Sitting on the coach with good friends talking about the games, the players, and for some checking their fantasy scores. In the end it just comes down to giving the people what they want. Hey, without us instead of a 16 game season they would be playing backyard football. I'm not saying we would go anywhere, no not at all, the game is to great for that. I'm saying they get paid millions, retire when they are 40, and live the good life, so why not earn it?! Football is the greatest sport there is, people have sunday gatherings to watch games, you can't find a tv on thanksgiving day that isn't playing the lions/dallas games, the Superbowl is an unofficial holiday, people make time for the draft in April, Monday Night Football actually has its own song, even the Superbowl commercials are anticipated! Find me another sport like that. And all we are asking for is the NFL to replace two meaningless games with two meaningful games. It would mean the world to all of us football fans.
